Yogyakarta (Djokjakarta), city in southwestern Indonesia, on the island of Java, near the Indian Ocean. Yogyakarta is an important city of Indonesia also a capital of DIY province. Yogyakarta is rich with cultural and education interest, also attractive tourism object. Some parts of the city it seems never changes but the other parts have changes over the last 5 years.

In the past over last 5 years, Yogyakarta it seems never changes. The crossroad at KHA Ahmad Dahlan Street & A Yani Street is still the 0 km of Yogyakarta, the center of yogyakarta city. The region surrounding the city is one of the most fertile areas of Java. Sugarcane, rice, and tobacco are the leading crops. Points of interest include Mount Merapi, an active volcano that overlooks the city; an imposing palace of the sultan of the former principality of Yogyakarta; the municipal botanical gardens; and a bazaar. Yogyakarta is called “Student City” because Yogyakarta is the central education in Indonesia. Gadjah Mada University; the best university in Indonesia is still standing there until now. Cultural and tourism object can still found like Kraton Yogyakarta; Tamansari Water Castle; etc, which offering attractive performance to the visitors.

Some parts of the city have been extremely changes. The government is building many new public places in the city; Smart Garden, an interesting place for children to study while they are having fun; Abubakar ali parking area, a parking area that provide to visitors of Malioboro, the shopping complex in yogyakarta; Giwangan terminal, a main bus station of this city that replace Umbulharjo terminal. The government also reconstructs some public transport providing; Adisutjipto Airport, Tugu train station and Lempuyangan train station. The government also widely and asphalt the roads. In May 2006, an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale caused widespread destruction in Yogyakarta and the surrounding region. The epicenter of the quake—which left an estimated 5,800 people dead, more than 20,000 injured, and about 200,000 homeless also some important building was damaged by the earthquake—was located a short distance to the southwest of the city. Because the effect of the earthquake, its force the government to repair the damaged building (public building, cultural building, government building) but in some case the government must destroyed the building first before rebuild it.

The government has a plan for the city. The plan is to turn the city into better city which have good culture, education and technology. Some important and cultural place is having regularly maintenances to make sure in a good condition, it’s because the government want to holds these cultural places to original building. Some developing of entire city with wise decision is enjoyable for the people and visitors. The purpose of developing the city is to control the city system in any aspect. And a better developing will be accepted by the people who lived there.
